Peeling is a very common condition. Many friends are troubled by peeling skin, especially peeling skin on the feet, which often leads to various foot skin diseases. Foot peeling is mainly seen in the following three diseases clinically:

1. Athlete's foot, often called tinea pedis, is generally characterized by dry and peeling feet, accompanied by itching, mainly on the fingers and soles. Microscopic examination of the fungus may reveal mycelium and spores. This situation requires antifungal treatment, commonly used ones are bifonazole cream and terbinafine cream.

2. Foot eczema, especially dry eczema, can also cause peeling of the feet and needs to be distinguished from athlete's foot. However, eczema is an allergy-related disease. Microscopic examination of fungi shows no hyphae or spores and they are generally distributed symmetrically. The treatment is mainly anti-inflammatory and antipruritic, and commonly used drugs include compound flumethasone ointment, desonide cream, etc.

3. Consider exfoliative keratolysis, which can also manifest as peeling of the feet. This condition is generally painless or itchy and has a certain seasonality, occurring primarily in summer and fall or during seasonal changes. Therefore, after peeling your feet, you must try to go to a regular hospital for treatment, and receive symptomatic treatment after a clear diagnosis.

What causes peeling feet?

Common causes of peeling feet include:

1. Exfoliative keratolysis, also known as lamellar dyshidrosis, is a common superficial palmoplantar desquamative skin disease. The reason is not very clear. Some people consider this disease to be a mild form of dyshidrosis. Skin lesions occur symmetrically on the palms or soles, starting as needle-sized white spots with no inflammatory changes. They gradually spread to the surrounding areas, with the middle epidermis breaking and falling off, resulting in a peeling surface.

2. Tinea pedis: the papular-scaly type is the most common, and is often seen between the toes and soles. The skin lesions are papules and scales with repeated peeling, clear boundaries, and itching that can be mild or severe. Hyperkeratotic tinea pedis is characterized by thickened keratin, rough and flaky skin on the soles, edges of the feet and heels, and the scales are flaky or small, falling off repeatedly and causing itching. Mycological examination for tinea pedis was positive.

3. Keratinized and fissured eczema on the feet or skin disease on the soles of the feet in young people. The latter is dry fissured dermatitis, also known as dry palmoplantar eczema. The main manifestations are erythema, skin cracks, skin peeling, and pain in the front of the foot, which are related to local sweat infiltration and sports friction. The lesions on both feet are symmetrical, with obvious pressure areas.

4. Atopic dermatitis can manifest as dry and flaky skin, rough, cracked and flaky skin on the palms and soles.

5. Congenital diseases, such as diffuse palmoplantar keratoderma, may be accompanied by excessive palmoplantar keratoderma, leading to maceration, peeling, and pain of the palm and sole skin. Patients are advised to go to the hospital for necessary examinations to confirm the diagnosis.

Common treatments for peeling feet

If peeling is not treated in time, it will lead to weak skin resistance. So how to treat peeling feet?

1. During the blister stage, the main effect is astringency and antipruritic. You can use Chinese medicine Fukangjie lotion or soak in 10% alum solution.

2. During the peeling stage, the new epidermis should be protected with topical medications, such as Fukang Ointment.

3. Patients with dry skin, thickened cuticle and small cracks can use moisturizing anti-cracking cream externally. In addition, be careful not to tear off the cuticle that has not been completely peeled off to avoid causing pain or bleeding.

4. For severe or recurrent cases, you can take Liuwei Dihuang Pills or Liuwei Dihuang Decoction: 20g of Rehmannia glutinosa, 15g of Chinese yam, 10g of Cornus officinalis, 10g of Moutan bark, 10g of Alisma orientalis, and 15g of Poria. Add 15 grams of Saposhnikovia divaricata and 30 grams of Tribulus terrestris to water and boil. Generally, 3-5 doses are required to see results.

5. Apply vitamin C injection to the affected area twice a day for 3 consecutive days. It has a good effect on the recovery of skin lesions.

6. Patients should also remain optimistic, avoid mental stress and emotional excitement, and minimize contact with alkaline detergents. This disease can be prevented from occurring.

7. Chop the ginger, soak it in white wine for 24 hours, and then apply it to the affected area once or twice a day. The therapeutic effect is significant.
