What is antiperspirant and what are the dangers

In the summer, the weather is hot and it is very easy to sweat, and sometimes there will be some odor. What is antiperspirant? What are the dangers of antiperspirant?

What is antiperspirant?

Antiperspirant is a personal care product used to keep the skin dry and is generally used on parts of the body that are prone to sweating, such as the armpits. Antiperspirants and deodorants are often used interchangeably, but there is a difference between the two. Antiperspirants have two functions: they reduce the amount of sweat that reaches the skin's surface and they inhibit the growth of bacteria that cause body odor. The difference with deodorants is that they only inhibit bacterial growth to reduce sweat and body odor, but they cannot reduce sweat flow, so they have no drying effect. Deodorants and antiperspirants mostly contain perfume ingredients, so they are often mistaken as perfume substitutes, but in fact the effect of antiperspirants is far more than just fragrance. There are three types of antiperspirants on the market today: spray, roll-on, and gel.

What are the dangers of antiperspirant

1. Skin allergies

If you have sensitive skin, some ingredients in the antiperspirant may cause skin allergies. Therefore, people with sensitive skin are advised to conduct a sensitivity test before using antiperspirant.

2. Prone to Inflammation

If antiperspirant is used too frequently, it may over-suppress sweating, causing the sweat gland ducts to become clogged, and metabolites in the skin cannot be excreted promptly and effectively. These toxins can easily cause continuous irritation to the skin, causing itching, redness, swelling, etc., and in severe cases, may even cause folliculitis.

3. May cause skin discomfort

Antiperspirants often contain aluminum compounds such as aluminum chlorohydrate, cobalt aluminum chloride and other compounds. If there is a wound on the skin surface when using antiperspirant, it is easy for the chemicals to irritate the skin and cause stinging, burning and other discomforts. In severe cases, the chemicals may be absorbed into the skin and cause infection.

4. May cause poisoning

Antiperspirant may contain some formaldehyde to extend its shelf life. Antiperspirant is used directly on human skin. If you have poor resistance to this product, you may get poisoned. Such as cough, weakness, difficulty breathing, headache and so on.

5. May cause shock

When the temperature is very high or when exercising, applying or spraying antiperspirant products over large areas of the body to forcibly stop sweating will inevitably cause the body temperature to overheat, and in severe cases, heat shock may occur.

Well, that’s all the introduction about the dangers of antiperspirant. I hope it will be helpful to you.
