Is it better for hand cream to absorb quickly or slowly? Quick absorption is not necessarily good.

Hand cream is definitely a must-have item in autumn and winter. Regular use of hand cream in autumn and winter can make the skin of your hands more delicate and moisturized. So, is it better for hand cream to absorb quickly or slowly?

Is it better for hand cream to absorb quickly or slowly?

This is not the way to judge. There is no direct connection between absorption speed and quality. Light textures are absorbed faster, while thick textures are generally absorbed slower. Different textures have their own advantages. Hand creams are commonly used for moisturizing and care, and can also help remove aging skin. The former absorbs well, while the latter washes thoroughly.

Skin care products that absorb quickly are not necessarily good

If skin care products disappear quickly after being applied to the skin, it does not mean that they have been absorbed by the skin. It is possible that volatile substances such as alcohol have been added, which cause the water to evaporate quickly, giving people a dry feeling. Therefore, the quality of skin care products has no direct relationship with how well they are absorbed.

1. For the skin, the faster the absorption and the more the product is absorbed, the less safe it may be.

2. Chemical components that penetrate through the dead cell layer may irritate the skin, while chemical components that only stay in the dead cell layer are relatively safe.

3. Some irritating ingredients (such as alcohol, fragrances, essential oils, and preservatives) will also be absorbed by the skin.

4. Exfoliation makes the skin thinner and accelerates the absorption of skin care products, thereby increasing the probability of dermatitis allergies.

5. For the skin, chemical ingredients that are not absorbed or absorbed less may be safer (at least they will not irritate deep living cells).

Are skin care products really absorbed?

Not all of them. Rather than absorption, it would be more appropriate to use the word "osmosis". The parts that usually play the role of absorption are the stratum corneum, hair follicles, sebaceous glands, and sweat glands of our epidermis, which are the initial sites of action of skin care products. The most important thing for these organs is to maintain proper hydration of the skin surface. In short, only when the proportions are just right can the skin maintain a stable balance. This is the biggest role of our skin care products.

Generally speaking, pure water and oil-free cosmetics basically only act on the surface of the skin, while the fat-soluble active substances in lotions and essential oils will penetrate into the skin.

How to increase skin absorption

Theoretically, the thinner the stratum corneum, the more absorbent it is, and the dense structure of stratum corneum cells is loose. The higher the water content of the stratum corneum, the more absorbent it is. But if you really do this, the thin stratum corneum will turn your skin into pitifully sensitive skin, the loose cell structure will lead to poor skin tolerance, and moisture cannot be locked in. A stratum corneum with too high water content will enlarge the pores and make the skin ugly.

However, regular exfoliation and moderate massage can promote absorption and are beneficial. But don’t be too obsessed with “consuming” the ingredients of skin care products. If your skin becomes sensitive one day, you will regret it. If something really penetrates the skin quickly, you have to be careful about poisoning!
