How much essential oil should be used each time? How many times a day should essential oil be used?

Using essential oils for skin care has many benefits. So how much essential oils should be used each time? How many times a day can I use essential oils on my skin?

How much essential oil should be used each time

Take the most commonly used method of use, essential oil massage, for example. If the concentration is mixed to 2%, you can add 2 drops of pure essential oil to 5 ml of base oil. If you only do a facial massage, then 5 ml will not be used up and can be used at least 2-3 times. Therefore, essential oil massage is very economical.

If you drop essential oil into water, the amount of essential oil used at a time is 1-8 drops. If you drop it into water for soaking your feet, you can add 6 drops each time; if you drop it into the bathtub for bathing, you can add 6-8 drops, and no more than 8 drops; if you drop it into water for fumigation, you can add 1-6 drops, and adjust the amount according to the size of the room; you can add 2-3 drops for a sitz bath; if you shower, you can add 1 drop to the bath flower or bath gel; you can add 4-5 drops for cold or hot compresses, etc.

A few essential oils can be directly dropped on the skin, such as lavender essential oil, tea tree essential oil, etc., just drop 1 drop directly on the skin each time. Large quantities must be diluted. For example, these essential oils can be used to prevent mosquito bites, treat acne, remove acne scars, etc. If you are used to dropping essential oil on a tissue or handkerchief, then you can use 1-2 drops of essential oil at a time.

How many times a day should I use essential oils?

Generally speaking, we do not recommend using essential oils too much. It is best to use them once a day for half a month and then stop for a few days. It is best to use them once before going to bed at night.

Do I need to wash off the essential oil after using it?

Whether to wash after using essential oil depends on the type of essential oil:

1. If you use pure plant essential oil, you don’t need to wash after massage, because the molecules of pure plant essential oil are small and easy to absorb. If you use this essential oil to massage your face, if there is excess oil, you can use oil-absorbing paper to absorb the excess oil after the massage; if you use it to massage your whole body, whether to wash it off depends on the condition of your skin. If a large amount of oil remains on the skin surface after the massage and is not absorbed, you should wash it off.

2. Use processed compound essential oils that need to be washed off, because compound essential oils are mainly formulated with mineral oil as the base oil and are usually not absorbed by the skin. If they are not washed after use, they will easily clog the pores, so they need to be washed off.

How to dilute essential oils

When using essential oils, you must dilute them. If we only need to dilute a single essential oil, we can use a measuring cup or other container, take out 10ml of base oil, and then drop a few drops of the single essential oil into it. Then we hold the container with both hands. At this time, we can use the temperature of our hands to help the single essential oil and the base oil quickly and evenly mix.

If we need to dilute several single essential oils, we should dilute them according to the formula of the essential oils. We can first mix several single essential oils evenly and then add them to the base oil.

If we use essential oils for facial massage, we recommend using 2-3 drops of essential oil in a ratio of 10 ml of base oil. If you use essential oils for body massage, it is recommended that you use 5-6 drops of a single essential oil and then mix it with 10ml of base oil.
