Is Tranexamic Acid Effective for Spot Removal?

Tranexamic acid, also known as tranexamic acid, is a synthetic amino acid. The whitening mechanism of tranexamic acid is to inhibit the activity of tyrosinase and melanocytes at the same time. So what is the freckle removal effect of tranexamic acid? If you’re interested, come and have a look!

Is Tranexamic Acid Effective for Spot Removal?

Tranexamic acid is effective for removing freckles because it is a protease inhibitor. It can inhibit the catalytic effect of proteases on the hydrolysis of peptide bonds. It can lighten dark spots and prevent them from getting darker, larger or larger. Thereby effectively preventing and improving skin pigmentation. However, this method is not suitable for people with allergic skin.

The role and efficacy of tranexamic acid

Tranexamic acid is a protease inhibitor that can inhibit the catalytic effect of proteases on the hydrolysis of peptide bonds, thereby preventing the activity of enzymes such as genic proteases. Its whitening mechanism is to inhibit the activity of tyrosinase and melanocytes, reduce the production of melanin from the basal layer of the epidermis, and completely cut off the pathway for the formation of melanin due to ultraviolet radiation.

Does the combination of "astaxanthin + tranexamic acid" double the efficacy?

1. The antioxidant property of astaxanthin is mainly in inhibiting "singlet oxygen". However, active free radicals can cause damage to the skin in many ways, and astaxanthin alone is not enough. On the other hand, astaxanthin has poor stability and research data related to its external use on humans is still lacking. It is far-fetched and subjective to conclude that astaxanthin is the strongest antioxidant based solely on the indicator of inhibiting "singlet oxygen".

2. The whitening effect of tranexamic acid is only a side effect, and its main effect is blood coagulation. And its efficacy is mainly manifested in oral administration. There are some shortcomings in skin external use: poor transdermal absorption capacity, and if it cannot be absorbed, it cannot exert its active effects. Therefore, the combination of "astaxanthin + tranexamic acid" may indeed have certain antioxidant and whitening effects. But the so-called doubling of effectiveness and the walking light bulb is really an exaggeration.
