Causes of sunburn in children Learn more about the causes of sunburn

Sunburn, also known as solar dermatitis, is an acute inflammatory reaction of the skin after being exposed to the sun in the summer if you do not pay attention to sun protection. It manifests as erythema, edema, blisters, pigmentation, and desquamation. This is sunburn. The onset of sunburn is related to exposure time, individual skin color, physique, race, etc.

Causes of sunburn in children

1. Ultraviolet rays. The most direct influence in the process of melanin production comes from the ultraviolet rays in the sun. It can activate tyrosinase in melanocytes, produce a series of reactions with tyrosinase in the blood, generate a substance called "DOPA", and then convert it into melanin.

2. Accumulation of toxins. Toxins in the skin can activate cell activity and also produce an oxidation reaction with tyrosinase to generate "DOPA" and release melanin. The pollution, radiation, and smoke that we have to face in life will intensify the oxidation process, making the skin tone darker and more uneven.

3. Cells are stimulated. Pollution, sunlight...all kinds of external threats can cause inflammation of skin cells to varying degrees. In order to repair inflammation, skin cells will naturally react and secrete a tetraenoic acid substance, which will activate tyrosinase to a certain extent and promote the production of melanin.

4. Vegetables that easily cause solar dermatitis mainly refer to photosensitive vegetables. Summer is the peak period of solar dermatitis. If patients do not pay attention to eating excessive amounts of these vegetables and then go out to bask in the sun, it will cause phytotoxic solar dermatitis, which is very painful. Therefore, you must pay attention to dietary taboos and control your diet.

5. Common photosensitive vegetables in life include: celery, rapeseed, spinach, amaranth, Chinese cabbage, etc. Long-term consumption of these vegetables can cause photodermatitis, and the skin will have symptoms such as erythema and edema. Some are also accompanied by symptoms such as petechiae, blisters or bullae.

6. In addition, some vegetables containing photosensitive substances can easily cause solar dermatitis after being exposed to the sun. Common ones include astragalus, gray vegetable, purslane, shepherd's purse, etc. Some Chinese herbal medicines also contain photosensitive substances, so patients should try not to sunbathe after taking them to avoid sun exposure to prevent adverse consequences.
