Why is the skin prone to dryness and itching in winter? How to improve this problem

In our daily lives, I believe many people will find that in winter, our skin is always prone to dryness and itching, and we may even wonder if we have skin diseases. So why is our skin particularly prone to dryness and itchiness in winter? How should we improve this problem?

Reasons why your skin becomes dry and itchy in winter

Winter is a cold and dry season. Many of us wear thick and abundant clothes to keep warm. When you go out, the dandruff on your sweaters and cotton pants will irritate your skin, and itching is inevitable. Especially in winter we like to turn on the air conditioner and heater. If you use the air conditioner for a long time, your skin will become dry and wrinkled. When our skin is extremely dehydrated, it will easily become dry and itchy. In addition, we all take baths with hot water in winter. Many people are afraid of the cold and turn the water very hot, which actually irritates our skin. The reduction of sebum will cause dryness and itching.

How to improve dry and itchy skin

1. Don’t use too high a water temperature when bathing

Although it is cold in winter and taking a bath can drive away the coldness in the body, the water temperature for bathing should not exceed 42℃, because generally speaking, the most appropriate water temperature for bathing is 3℃ higher than the normal body temperature. If the water temperature is too low, it will not be able to wash away the aging cuticles and oils on the body, but if the water temperature is too high, it will also wash away the necessary sebum, making the body dry, while damaging the cuticle barrier and making the skin prone to itching.

2. Use a body lotion containing vegetable oil

I believe many people know that the easiest way to combat dry and itchy body is to use body lotion or body cream to moisturize and help lock in moisture in the skin. In winter, it is best to use body care products that contain more vegetable oil or mineral oil, so that the moisturizing effect will be more lasting.

Although it is normal to have dry and itchy skin in winter, you should also pay attention to skin care, hydrate your skin in time, and drink water frequently to avoid dryness and itching.
