What causes dry skin? How to care for dry skin

Dry skin is common and one of the more common skin types. So what is the cause of dry skin? How to care for dry skin?

What causes dry skin?

1. Internal factors are related to congenital weak sebaceous gland activity, acquired decline in sebaceous gland and sweat gland activity, vitamin A deficiency, preference for low-fat food, decreased secretion of related hormones, skin blood circulation and malnutrition, fatigue, etc.

Dehydrated dry skin: Some girls with this type of skin don’t even know that they have dry skin, because there is no problem with their sebaceous glands, but their skin is extremely dehydrated due to improper care or other reasons. The balance between moisture and sebum inside the skin is lost, causing the skin to stimulate the sebaceous glands to increase secretion in a feedback manner, resulting in a "oily outside and dry inside" situation.

2. External factors include exposure to the sun, cold wind, unclean skin, indiscriminate use of cosmetics, and excessive washing of the face or bathing.

Oily dry skin: Girls with this type of skin usually know that they have dry skin. Because their sebaceous glands secrete less oil, the skin appears dry because it cannot lock in moisture in time and fully. The skin lacks luster and is more sensitive to external stimuli.

How to care for dry skin

1. Dehydrated dry skin

For dehydrated dry skin, the secretion of sebaceous glands is normal, but the skin becomes dehydrated and dry due to improper skin care techniques and other reasons. A serious imbalance of water and oil in the skin will cause the sebaceous glands to secrete more oil, resulting in an oily outside and dry inside.

Moisturizing strategy: hydration is king

Skin that is oily on the outside and dry on the inside can easily make girls mistakenly think that they have oily skin, so they blindly control oil. In fact, what dry skin that lacks water needs most is hydration, and it should avoid using strong oil-control products and frequently using oil-absorbing paper to absorb oil, so as to prevent the facial skin from losing the protection of oil and stimulate the sebaceous glands to secrete more crazily. As long as the skin is well moisturized, the oiliness will naturally disappear.

2. Oil-deficient dry skin

This type of skin looks dull and dry skin can be easily identified. Because the skin lacks sufficient sebum protection, moisture cannot be retained in the skin, so the skin appears dull, rough, lacks delicate feeling, and is easily sensitive to external stimuli and produces sensitive symptoms.

Moisturizing strategy: replenish water and oil

Oily skin should not only be hydrated, but also properly supplemented with high-quality nutrients to make up for the inherent deficiency of sebaceous glands, apply a layer of water-locking barrier to the skin, prevent excessive evaporation of water too quickly, and enhance the skin's water storage and retention capacity.
