Lip care tips: How to properly and effectively care for your lips

How to take care of your lips correctly and effectively? In winter, lips often become dry and chapped, so how do we solve this problem? Don't worry, I will bring you some tips for lip care, let's learn together.

How to properly and effectively protect your lips

Winter is here, and the temperature has dropped dramatically in the past few days. Please keep warm. What I am sharing today is about lip care. Friends who often have dry and chapped lips in winter should definitely read this. If you think it’s good, you can also forward it to your circle of friends. Thank you all.

▍Lip problems

The weather is dry and cold in autumn and winter, and the most common lip problems are peeling and cracking.

Lips are really fragile, only about 1/3 the thickness of the skin on other parts of the body. The stratum corneum of skin on other parts of the body has more than ten or twenty cell layers thick, while the stratum corneum of the lips has only five or six cell layers. Therefore, the thin stratum corneum cannot cover the color of the blood vessels underneath, which is why the lips appear rosy.

In such a thin area, and without the protection of sweat glands and sebaceous glands, directly exposed to the cold and dry air, lips that do not peel and crack are really tough.

Due to the sensitivity of lips, once any problem occurs, we always can't help but lick them with our tongue or tear them with our hands, which then worsens the condition and causes problems such as cheilitis, and finally leads to pigmentation and deepening of lip lines.

▍How to care for your lips

Lip care is really simple compared to face care. Let’s first talk about common bad habits.

1. Take a sip and lick it

In fact, everyone knows that licking lips is a "poison to quench thirst" approach, but it is an instinctive reaction. You want to lick your lips when they are dry. Because the amylase in saliva is relatively viscous, like batter, when the wind blows, in addition to the evaporation of surface moisture, it will also take away the moisture on the lips. The batter will stick to the lips and cause the deep connective tissue to shrink and wrinkle. Therefore, it dries out more.

The correct way is to apply lip balm immediately. If there is no lip balm in an emergency, it is allowed to use moisturizing lip balm for first aid, but it cannot completely replace lip balm!

2. Peel off dead skin

Dry lips will inevitably cause peeling, which looks very ugly even without lipstick, so many girls just pick, tear, and bite them to get them off. Then because the dead skin will be connected to the fresh oral mucosa, it will be torn and bleed if you are not careful.

The correct way to do it is to first cut off the dead skin with small scissors, then soften the dead skin with lip balm, and then gently rub it off with a tissue.

3. Don’t remove lip makeup

Many girls' lipstick is rubbed off a lot when eating or drinking, so when they go home to remove makeup, they only briefly touch their lips or even don't remove it at all. However, the residual pigment will be stuck in the lines. If it is not removed cleanly, in the long run it will not only cause problems such as pigmentation and discoloration of the lips, but will also make the lips prone to allergies, increasing the possibility of dryness and inflammation.

So girls, be sure to remove your lip makeup properly when you get home.

Then let’s continue to talk about lip care methods. Although you apply lip balm many times during the day, you still need to take care of your lips when you go home at night.

Step 1: Remove lip makeup

It is really important to remove lip makeup. In addition to removing lipstick, you also need to use professional eye and lip makeup remover. Products worth recommending are Clinique Eye and Lip Remover and Mandan Eye and Lip Remover, especially the latter, which is cheap and large in size and worth the money.

The correct way to remove lip

Wet the cotton pad and apply for 5-10 seconds. After gently wiping, you can also use cotton thread to remove the remaining makeup in the lip folds~

Step 2: Exfoliation

The dead skin on the lips is metabolized very quickly, and it is easy to accumulate, thicken, become keratinized, and pigmented, so just like the skin on your face, you need to exfoliate regularly. 1-2 times a week is enough, don't be greedy.

Before exfoliating, you can apply a layer of lipstick, apply a hot towel to your lips to soften the dead skin, then apply a layer of lip-specific exfoliating product and gently massage your lips.

step3: lip skin care

Whitening: Girls with dark lip color can also exfoliate to whiten their lips. Choose a mild whitening product, pour it onto a cotton pad, and then apply it on the cotton pad for 3-5 minutes.

Lip mask: If you want to have moisturized lips tomorrow morning, you can also apply a lip mask at night. But lip masks are like facial masks, they can be used as emergency products but they cannot improve major problems. Before going to bed or before putting on makeup, you can apply it for 15 minutes to moisturize your lips.
