How to prevent spring skin allergies?

Spring is the season when skin problems are most likely to occur. Dryness, peeling, allergies, each of these problems can drive women crazy. As the saying goes, "The best time of the year for skin care is in spring." Today, I will tell you the secrets of skin care in spring, so that women can stay beautiful throughout the spring!

Why is skin prone to allergies in spring?

Many girls experience very concentrated skin reactions during the transition from winter to spring: acne, redness, rashes, dryness, and some "spring allergies" such as itching and pain. Then they say, "Oh, I'm allergic!" So, why are allergies more common in spring?

From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, among the six elements, spring represents wind, and among the five elements, spring represents wood. Spring is a windy and dry season, when all things grow. Therefore, various diseases hidden in the human body, including skin diseases, are prone to "stir up" at this time.

In terms of living environment, due to the cold climate in winter, people go out less, and thick winter clothes cover the skin tightly, reducing the skin's ability to resist external damage and stimulation. As the weather warms in spring, people take off their heavy clothing and engage in more outdoor activities. However, at this time, the skin's ability to protect against various external damaging factors such as ultraviolet rays is the weakest of the year.

From the physiological characteristics of the skin, the spring is windy, dry and the temperature rises, so the rate of evaporation and loss of skin moisture is faster than in any other season. In particular, the exposed facial skin is extremely prone to water loss and dryness. This will reduce the elasticity of the skin, and the outermost layer of the skin will crack and curl up, making the originally smooth and moisturized skin look dry and flaky. Moreover, the incompleteness of the skin's stratum corneum causes the skin to lose moisture faster and makes the skin more sensitive to external stimuli. It is not surprising that inflammatory reactions such as erythema and swelling occur when exposed to wind and sun.

For spring allergies, some are caused by external factors, such as contact with allergens (skin care products, medicines, etc.), and some are caused by the skin barrier function failing to adapt to the environmental pressure brought about by seasonal changes in time. With the arrival of spring, at least the following changes will directly affect skin irritation:

① The intensity of sunlight radiation (especially ultraviolet and infrared rays) will increase by about 50° in two weeks, greatly increasing the irritation and damage to the skin;

②The temperature rises and sometimes suddenly drops, fluctuating violently. When it is hot, the capillaries expand and the skin loses water faster; when it is extremely cold, the body will compensatorily expand the blood vessels to maintain blood supply and body temperature, and the permeability of the blood vessels will increase (immune cells will become more active);

③ Insufficient protection: After taking off the protective winter clothes, they did not use umbrellas or wear hats as in winter (but the UV level has risen to about twice that of winter);

④ Bacteria and other organisms begin to become active, plants bloom, and the potential allergenic factors in the air, such as pollen, animal and plant dust, increase. At this time, the skin barrier function is relatively weak, the immune system is active, and the rate of skin allergies will also increase.

How to prevent and deal with "spring sensitivity"?

For people who experience spring allergies every spring, the following methods can be adopted:

Protect the skin barrier: It is recommended to avoid over-cleansing the skin to avoid excessive loss of the skin's natural oils. Appropriately reduce the number of times you use facial cleanser, and you can use facial cleanser only once a day;

Remove makeup correctly: Use gentle makeup removers and cleansers, and wash your face with warm water rather than hot water.

Use keratin-softening ingredients such as fruit acid and salicylic acid with caution, and use scrubs and peel-off masks with caution.

Do a good job of sun protection. In severe cases, avoid the irritation that may be caused by chemical sunscreens and makeup removal. It is recommended to use a hat as a hard sun protection and avoid heavy makeup.

If you have a history of pollen allergy, avoid going outdoors or to parks when flowers are blooming to avoid irritation and damage to the skin caused by pollen. You should still wear a mask or avoid the wind when it is windy.

What is the difference between allergy and sensitivity?

Allergies and sensitivities are two different things. Acquired sensitivity is mainly caused by the decline of skin barrier function, while allergy is an abnormal reaction involving the immune system.

Although the symptoms of the two are superficially similar, the mechanisms of occurrence are completely different. Therefore, when spring allergies occur, please first review your skin care methods to see if the skin itself has been damaged due to improper skin care, and is in a thin, transparent, red, and sensitive state. For example, if you feel a stinging sensation when washing your face, and the pain disappears after washing, this is "simple irritation" caused by fragile skin, not an allergy. As long as you stop these irritating and damaging methods, simplify skin care and pay attention to protection, it will be easy to get relief, but complete repair will take about 3 months. When the skin is repaired, tolerance increases and seasonal changes will no longer cause spring allergies.

If your skin is healthy and intact, and you do not have an allergic constitution or have little history of allergies, you should consider whether you are allergic.

The most important way to deal with allergies is to identify the allergens based on suspected factors and avoid further contact. Generally, after the allergens are eliminated, the symptoms will disappear automatically in a relatively short period of time. Of course, long-term continuous allergic state will also damage the skin and eventually turn it into sensitive skin.

Emergency measures after allergies or sensitivity

Whether you are allergic or sensitive, you can use the following methods:

① Stop using suspicious cosmetics and irritating products;

②Avoid stimulation, such as cold, hot, acid, alkali, wind, friction, sunlight, and avoid excessive cleaning;

③ Use chamomile hydrosol, cactus, licorice, purslane, mung bean and other extracts to soothe and calm the mind. Seek medical help and use anti-inflammatory drugs if necessary.

④ After the symptoms disappear for one or two months, use the product for testing to distinguish whether it is an allergy or simple irritation to avoid future contact.

If you are allergic, be careful to avoid allergenic products. Don't believe in claims such as "detoxification" and don't insist on using up the products because you feel bad about spending money.

If your skin is sensitive, you should use repair products with simple ingredients and strengthen daily care to allow your skin to gradually return to normal.
