How long is the shelf life of a lip mask? How to tell if the lip mask has expired?

Skin care products all have a shelf life. Expired skin care products cannot be used. The same goes for lip masks. Continuing to use expired lip masks will irritate and damage the lip skin. So, how long is the shelf life of a lip mask?

How long is the shelf life of lip mask?

It depends on the specific situation. When the lip mask is not opened, the general shelf life is 3 years. Once opened, it needs to be used up within one year. Therefore, you must use the lip mask carefully after opening it, otherwise it will be wasted after the shelf life expires, which is a pity.

Can I use the lip mask if it's expired?

Lip masks cannot be used after they expire. If you use them again, it may cause lip allergies or even inflammation. Therefore, for the sake of your health, expired lip masks must be thrown away.

Of course, although expired lip masks cannot be applied on the lips, if the expiration time is not too long and the product has not changed much in quality, the lip mask can still be used as a hand cream. If you feel it is too greasy, you can only throw it away.

How to tell if a lip mask has expired

1. Look at the surface: This is the simplest way to judge. Check whether there are mildew spots on the paste. Some lipsticks contain more protein. In spring and autumn, the suitable temperature and humidity conditions can easily allow fungi and bacteria to grow, causing the lipstick to become moldy.

2. Smell: Expired or spoiled lipstick will have a pungent and strange smell. Because the decomposition of cosmetics by bacteria is a process of organic fermentation, the acidification reaction will emit a rancid smell, which will cover up the fragrance of the lipstick itself and will be very unpleasant.

3. Look at the color of the lipstick: If the cap is not fastened tightly after use and the lipstick is left directly in the air, it will invisibly provide an opportunity for the growth and reproduction of bacteria. The pigments produced by bacteria during their growth and development can turn the lipstick yellow or black.

4. Check the properties of the lipstick: Check whether there are water droplets on the surface of the lipstick, or whether the paste has dried up. This is generally caused by improper storage. For example, if the cosmetics are exposed to cold or heat for a long time, the oil and water will separate; if the paste is placed in the sun for a long time, the moisture in the paste will evaporate, causing the paste to dry out.
