There are six types of ceramides, which are a type of ceramide lipid composed of a long-chain alkali group of sphingosine and fatty acids. Ceramide is a type of phospholipid with ceramide as the skeleton, mainly including ceramide phosphocholine and ceramide phosphoethanolamine. Phospholipids are the main components of cell membranes. 40%~50% of sebum in the stratum corneum is composed of ceramide, and ceramide is the main part of the intercellular matrix.

Ceramide Extraction Method

1. Natural extraction method: Naturally extracted ceramides come from animals and plants. It comes from the brains of animals that have pathogenic risks, so it cannot be used in cosmetics. The plant extraction method is limited by the plant growth cycle and season, and the yield is low.

2. Chemical synthesis: Chemical synthesis mainly involves pseudoceramides, which have similar structures and functions to ceramides and can be used in cosmetics. Many pseudoceramides have been successfully synthesized.

3. Microbial fermentation method: Microbial fermentation method is a commonly used method for preparing ceramide in recent years. It uses Pichia yeast (Pichiaciferrii) or Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) to ferment under certain conditions to obtain tetraacetyl phytosphingosine (TAPS), which is then deacetylated to obtain phytosphingosine, and fatty acids are added to synthesize ceramide and other substances.
