Which is better for sun protection, a hat or an umbrella? Should I wear a hat or an umbrella on a rainy day?

Summer is here and the sun is very strong. Under the sun, you feel like you are going to be evaporated by the heat. And once under the sun, you can see your skin getting darker. If you want white skin, you need sun protection. So which one is more sun-protective: wearing a hat or holding an umbrella? Should I wear a hat or hold an umbrella on a rainy day?

Which is better for sun protection, a hat or an umbrella?

Wearing a hat and holding an umbrella can provide better sun protection, as the hat and umbrella block different amounts of sunlight.

There is a type of ultraviolet light in the sun. According to the different wavelengths, ultraviolet light can be divided into long-wave ultraviolet light (UVA), medium-wave ultraviolet light (UVB), and short-wave ultraviolet light (UVC). Short-wavelength ultraviolet light can be ignored and cannot penetrate the ozone layer and reach the ground. Long-wave ultraviolet rays can reach human skin, cause sunburn and make people age. Sunscreen can block some of this light. Medium-wave ultraviolet rays can tan the skin, which means they can only reach the surface of the skin and cannot penetrate plastic and glass. Holding an umbrella can weaken this light. Holding an umbrella or a rain umbrella in summer has little effect. You should use a sun umbrella, an umbrella that is anti-UV, preferably one with vinyl inside.

Should I wear a hat or hold an umbrella on a rainy day?

It depends on the severity of the rain.

For light rain, you can just wear a hat, but it is not suitable to stay in the rain for a long time. Most hats absorb water, such as woolen hats, baseball caps, sun hats, etc. After absorbing water, the hats will become heavy and uncomfortable to wear on your head. It is better to hold an umbrella when it rains, as it can cover other parts of the body. A hat can only cover the head, and an umbrella does not absorb water.

If it is pouring rain, hats and umbrellas are of no use. It is best not to go out, otherwise your clothes will get wet.

That’s all about hats and umbrellas for sun protection. If you want sun protection, use both. If it is raining, it is better to choose an umbrella to prevent other parts of the body from getting wet.
