Is it good to wash your hair with handmade soap? Why do you need to dry the soap?

Handmade soap is used by many of us, and most people use it to wash their face or take a bath. Some people use it to wash their hair. So let us find out if it is good to use handmade soap to wash your hair? Using handmade soap to break out acne?

Is it okay to wash your hair with handmade soap?

Washing your hair with handmade soap will have a very good effect. However, the scalp problem cannot be solved, forcing people to choose to use handmade soap to solve it. Handmade soap does not have any chemical additives, it only has a simple cleansing effect and does not put any burden on the scalp. Use a milder soap to cleanse your scalp, such as sea salt soap, which can remove oily areas and tighten acne-prone skin. Handmade soap can be used for washing face, removing makeup, and bathing. Because handmade soap for washing hair does not contain additives such as conditioners or chemical agents added to commercial shampoos, and using handmade soap on long hair can easily produce soap scum, which makes you feel that your hair is not washed cleanly. Comb your hair to make it tangle-free before washing. After wetting your hair, quickly apply handmade soap foam to your scalp and quickly scratch every part of your scalp with your fingertips. Unless your hair is stained with grease or other things, your hair will usually be smooth after wiping and blow-drying.

Using Handmade Soap to Break Out Acne

Compared to most skin care product ingredients, the surfactant content of handmade soap is much smaller. After the surfactant penetrates the stratum corneum and enters the skin, it will affect the metabolism of skin keratin. For example, the keratin that was previously metabolized normally may be affected by surface activity and may become slowly metabolized or the old keratin may not be shed. This will cause the hair follicles to become clogged, leading to acne problems. Therefore, many people often say that they get acne as soon as they put on makeup, thinking that it is the makeup powder particles that clog their pores. In fact, the possibility of makeup powder clogging pores is very small. The reason why you are more likely to get acne after putting on makeup is that excessive cleansing leads to residual surfactant, which causes waste keratin to clog pores, thus causing acne problems. Surfactants can promote the removal of oil, and the same principle applies when used on the skin. We have said before that the stratum corneum and sebum film are the skin barriers. Cleansing not only removes dead skin cells, but also removes oil from the skin's surface. Of course, the more powerful the cleaning power of the surfactant, the stronger its degreasing ability. The ideal state of skin surface cleaning is to wash away dust and dirt while retaining a certain amount of sebum. This is also because the soap base has strong cleaning and detergency. It is easy to over-clean. This is also the reason why soap-based surfactants are not popular in the skin care field.

Why dry soap?

Because of the concern that the saponification reaction is incomplete, there are still residual free alkali in the soap, which may cause damage to the skin if used directly on the skin. That is to say, if the saponification reaction reaches 100% and all the sodium hydroxide added in the formula participates in the reaction, there is no need to dry the soap. In other words, the more complete the saponification reaction is, the shorter the soap drying time can be. In fact, we have to talk about hot-process soap here. The reason why hot-process soap does not have the problem of drying the soap is because the saponification reaction can be carried out more thoroughly under the action of temperature. During the saponification process, glycerin is produced in a certain proportion, and in the production of cold process soap, the saponification reaction is ongoing. When it is stirred until it becomes thick and can be put into the mold, the saponification reaction has produced a large number of soap molecules. In fact, the more soap molecules are produced, the thicker the soap liquid will be. Different formulas, stirring times and methods will result in different saponification degrees. However, after the thick soap liquid is put into the mold and kept warm, the saponification reaction will continue and reach its maximum value.

How many hours does it take for handmade soap to solidify?

The solidification time of handmade soap varies according to the product classification. Cold-process soap takes three to five weeks, and hot-process soap takes one week. Cold-process refers to the hot-melt method used for industrial soap. When oil and sodium hydroxide solution are mixed, saponification reaction occurs. Except for the need to heat and melt solid fats into liquids before mixing, high-temperature heating is not required during the soap-making process. Hot process soap is a soap made using a heat process. When the oil and sodium hydroxide undergo saponification reaction to a thick stage, they are then heated intermittently to make them saponify quickly.
